What Are Ceramic Implants?

When a tooth needs to be removed from your mouth, our highly skilled and experienced doctors and staff will perform a dental extraction. Some of the reasons that you might need to have a tooth extracted include tooth decay or infection, severe gum disease, fractured teeth, or the removal of extra teeth or wisdom teeth. Teeth might also be extracted as part of cosmetic treatment or as part of the prosthetics process of fitting dentures.

Dental extractions are routine procedures in our office and range from a simple extraction to more complicated surgical extractions. In a simple extraction, the patient is placed under a local anesthetic. Then, using simple instruments, the dentist will lift and hold the tooth, rock it back and forth, and then using slow, steady pressure, will remove it from the mouth.

Surgical Dental Extraction

A surgical extraction is performed on teeth that are not easily accessible, either because they have been broken off below the gum line or because they have not come through the gums yet and are still housed below the gum line. In surgical extractions, an incision is made in the gums, and the tooth is carefully removed, often by splitting it into several smaller pieces. These types of extractions will usually require a general, rather than a localized, anesthetic.
