It is possible that you may develop a complication called dry sockets during the implant placement period. Dry sockets usually take place a few days after the post has been placed. If there is a blood clot that is dislodged or dissolved before the wound has been at healing, underlying bone and nerve can be exposed, which can be painful. If you experience a fever, sudden discomfort, or excessive bleeding, you may be developing a dry socket. You should reach out to your oral surgeon as quickly as possible so the area can be flushed. Then, the primary treatment is pain relief medication.
If your jaw is strong enough to support the dental implant, your dentist will apply some local anesthetic to numb the area in your jaw. Then, he or she will peel back the gum tissue to reveal the jaw. After this, your surgeon will implant the titanium screw in your jaw before closing the surgical site. Once this is done, it will take several weeks for the jaw to accept the screw. During a follow-up visit, your surgeon will take a look at the post to make sure it has grafted completely to the jaw. If it has, the dentist will attach the porcelain cap to complete the process.
It is true that a single tooth dental implant may cost more money in the beginning; however, dental implants are a permanent treatment option. Some of the biggest advantages of a single tooth dental implant include:
- You can eat a regular diet with a single tooth dental implant
- These dental implants are designed to last for decades, and they could last the rest of your life
- They are incredibly durable, making them nearly impossible to damage
For all of these reasons, a single tooth dental implant has become an incredibly popular treatment option during the past few decades.
