When Bone Grafting Is Needed?

Types Of Bone Grafting
There are three types of bone grafting: autogenous, allograft, and xenograft. An autogenous graft is performed by transplanting bone from one area of the patient’s body to the grafting area. On the other hand, an allograft is performed using synthetic bone or bone procured from a bone bank. Lastly, the xenograft utilizes a cow or bovine bone.
Of these three options, the best and most successful option is the autogenous bone graft. This type of bone grafting is considered the “gold standard” of grafting since it uses live bone that helps to stimulate bone growth and facilitate healing.
